Rafa abrirá ante Karol Beck en el torneo de Qatar

Tras Abu Dhabi, la temporada ATP da el tiro formal de salida con los torneos de Brisbane, Chennai y Doha, todos del formato ATP 250. En Doha, en el Qatar ExxonMobil Open, Nadal y Federer vuelven a encabezar el cuadro, cuya fase final arranca mañana. Nadal sale con el eslovaco Karol Beck, probablemente el martes, y Federer (campeón en 2005 y 06) tiene un duro comienzo: Tsonga. Como finalista 2010, Nadal defiende 150 puntos en Doha.

Redacción deportes, 3 ene (EFE).- Rafael Nadal comenzó a calentar motores en Doha, con una victoria hoy en dobles junto a Marc López, al vencer en primera ronda de este cuadro a los también españoles Pere Riba y David Marrero, por 6-3 y 7-5 en 80 minutos.

El jugador de Manacor ha ganado dos veces este torneo en la modalidad de dobles. En 2005 lo hizo formando pareja con Albert Costa, y en 2009 con Marc López.

Nadal alcanzó la final individual el año pasado, pero cayó contra el ruso Nikolay Davydenko después de tener dos bolas de partido.

Esta semana abrirá su concurso en este cuadro frente al eslovaco Karol Beck, 103 del mundo.

Será la segunda vez que el de Manacor se enfrente con Beck, a quien derrotó en el 2009 en estas mismas pistas, en octavos de final, por 6-1 y 6-2. EFE.

C'est une bonne manière de prendre la "température" avant d'attaquer le tournoi de simple. Le numéro un mondial affronte au premier tour le joueur slovaque, Karol Beck.

Rafael Nadal a tranquillement négocié son premier match de l'année en dominant mardi le Slovaque Karol Beck au premier tour du tournoi de Doha (6-3, 6-0). Face au 103e mondial, l'Espagnol a seulement connu quelques ratés sur son service en début de match, défendant une balle de break dans le premier jeu puis se faisant débreaker à 3-1. Mais le n°1 mondial a ensuite déroulé son jeu, terminant à 70% de premières balles. «(Beck) n'a pas joué à son meilleur tennis aujourd'hui», a estimé Nadal, qui s'est «senti de mieux en mieux au fur et à mesure du match.» Il affrontera au prochain tour le vainqueur d'un autre duel slovaquo-espagnol entre Lukas Lacko et Pere Riba.

"Es un buen comienzo de año para mí", dijo el tenista manacorí, quien admitió sufrir algo de fiebre desde la pasada noche. "Ahora mismo estoy concentrado y tratando de jugar buen torneo aquí", señaló.

Q. Well, Happy New Year.

RAFAEL NADAL: Happy New Year.

Q. First match, a win. Just a little bit, your impressions after this break? Did you have enough of a break? How are you feeling overall?

RAFAEL NADAL: Well, I think I started the season playing well. I played very well in Abu Dhabi last week, so that's positive.

Today probably Karol, he didn't play one of his best matches and I played okay. I didn't need a lot tonight I think to win, but what I needed I had. So it's a positive victory. It's a good start of the year for me.

We will see what's happen tomorrow. I am a little bit lucky, I think, because yesterday night I didn't feel very well, and today I improved a little bit. I had fever yesterday night and today in the morning a little bit, too. So I feeling a little bit better now. Hopefully still improving.

Q. Would you like to tell us what you did until the final of London and now, Abu Dhabi?

RAFAEL NADAL: Yeah. Well, I had five days off, so I was with the sponsor these five days. I had a few TV spots to do, so I didn't have a break, no? I practiced the whole three weeks. I had two matches for Roger for our foundations.

I practiced. That's all. I tried to spend the time with the family during Christmas, and during that three weeks be there with the family and enjoying a little bit with small causes that I have and trying to be with the friends.

But very short time, no? I tried to do everything.

Q. Is it enough to feel fresh for this year?

RAFAEL NADAL: No, is not enough. But that's the tennis world, but is not enough. Three weeks of practice and five days of stop is never gonna be enough.

Q. What about this goal to win four titles, Grand Slam titles in a row?

RAFAEL NADAL: Right now we are in Doha, so we are gonna talk about Australia when we get there next week. Right now I am focused and trying to play good tournament here. I am in second round.

And here I start my Australian Open, not in Australia. So every tournament is different, that's true, but playing good in Abu Dhabi I have to continue that here, but later we will see.

All the tournaments are difficult, and Australia for everybody is very important tournament, not only for me because I have the chance to do it, the fourth in a row.

That's very far, so I don't think about that. My goal is only arrive there, try to be there, very competitive, in the right form to compete. I will see what's happen.

Q. Yesterday you feel bad during the double or after?

RAFAEL NADAL: I feel bad a little bit before, and during doubles so-so. But after doubles I field a little bit worse, no?

I came to the hotel, and I stayed on the bed directly straight from the court, and it wasn't a very good night for me.

Q. This morning you were okay?

RAFAEL NADAL: Not perfect, for sure. I had to take antibiotics and everything. So wasn't an easy night. So this morning I wasn't feel perfect, and maybe I not gonna feel perfect tomorrow, too, but hopefully improve a little bit every day.

Q. Roger yesterday said that an offseason should last between six to eight weeks. That's what he would like. An offseason should last between six to eight weeks. Do you agree with that?

RAFAEL NADAL: That we have...

Q. He wishes the offseason would last between six to eight weeks.

RAFAEL NADAL: Offseason with tennis? Six to eight weeks?

Q. Yes.

RAFAEL NADAL: For me, that's a minimum thing to do it, no? The tennis is very competitive sport. You need to be healthy, you need to play almost every week during all the season. And if you can't have three months or three weeks or two weeks off without recovering your body and relax a little bit, your mind, too, is very difficult to start another season not 100%.

For that reason now in February I end up playing nothing, because I only had three weeks off practicing, and I only have five days of stop, so I need a little bit more.

And I am trying to be at 100% for this beginning of the season, and after that I decided to not play in Rotterdam, Dubai, because I need to practice more, physical tennis, and to relax a little bit, too, because the season is long and I need to be ready for after.

Q. I know it's just one match into the new season, but are you happy with your form?

RAFAEL NADAL: Two.

Q. Two, including the doubles.

RAFAEL NADAL: No, three. I played in Abu Dhabi, too, the first one.

Q. Let's make it three. Are you happy with your form, the way it's shaping up?

RAFAEL NADAL: I think I finish the season playing better than ever in London. I not play the Masters Cup like I did this year, so that give me confidence.

I think I practiced really well in Mallorca during all of December, and I started playing the season really well in Abu Dhabi. Today it's difficult to say something, but last two matches against Berdych and Roger in Abu Dhabi, my feeling was really good.

So hopefully I still improving here and continue with this right feeling here. We will see what's happen.

Q. Are you proud of the way you fought?
RAFAEL NADAL: Well, I think I didn't play bad, no? But I think he played really good, really good match.
I wasn't physically 100%, no? I had fever two days ago. Last night wasn't perfect, too.
So I felt with less power than usual. I feel a little bit tired for the moments, and that's what happened in the second and in the third. I was 4-0, and with 4-0, I know that the match wasn't done.
So it was important victory for me for the situation, because Lacko played, I think, very well, and I had to be there and fight all the time to win, so is important victory for me.

Q. What did you tell yourself at the start of the third set?
RAFAEL NADAL: Well, when I lost the serve for the second time in the second, I didn't fight anymore, because I say, Well, we gonna rest a little bit now and try my best in the third.I just know what I had to do to play a little bit better, no? I know I had to change the rhythm of the ball, play with a little bit more slice, with more topspin balls, high balls, and tried to change a little bit the rhythm, because he was touching the ball fantastic, and I didn't have enough power to have pain him with my shots, no?
So I had to change a little bit and play a little bit more, with more strategy than usual.

Q. Are you taking any medicine or seeing the doctor?
RAFAEL NADAL: Well, sure, no? I am taking anti-inflammatories, I am taking antibiotics, and that's all that what can I -- I can, you know, how is the rules, and I can't take a lot of things, no?

Q. Did you hesitate to play this morning? Did you hesitate to play this match?
RAFAEL NADAL: No, no, no. I didn't consider that. I always know I gonna play, yeah.

Q. And in doubles, too?
RAFAEL NADAL: Yeah. Well, especially I know today, with all the respect, wasn't really difficult match in doubles, and maybe just be there and try to help a little bit my friend and play *love3* . And for me is good practice now.
I know was a little bit tired for me after the tough match in singles going doubles. For that reason I go straight from the singles to the doubles and tried to play, focus on doubles. Worked well. We won. That's positive thing, and we are in semifinals in doubles. Happy for that.
Right now tomorrow gonna be another day. That's still a good practice for me, play a lot of hours on court, because Australia is in one week and a half, and play long matches there, for sure, so that's good.

Q. Do you think you will be able to be 100% tomorrow?
RAFAEL NADAL: No. I think I gonna be a little bit tired, but I am here to try my best. For sure my goal is to try to win tomorrow and try to be at my 100%.

Q. Almost the same thing you met today, for Federer met so many difficulties to win his match. What does this mean for the two best classified players compared to the others? Can we wait for something, for surprises?
RAFAEL NADAL: We never won easy, never; not this year, not last year, not two years ago and not three, five years ago.
The tour is very difficult. All the players are very competitive. They are very good professionals and very good tennis players, everybody here.
You can lose and hope win against everybody. That's the sport, and I know when I go on court I can win and I can lose. For Roger I think is the same.

Q. You don't feel privileged? You don't have feel you have privilege compared to the other players?
RAFAEL NADAL: What kind of privilege?

Q. That you are No. 1.
RAFAEL NADAL: Well, the ranking says I am the No. 1 now, but when you go on court, doesn't matter if you are No. 1 or No. 10. When you go on court, gonna win, the player who plays better that day.
And if Lacko play better than me today, he will beat me anyway if he is the 50 and I am No. 1. When I am playing, I am not thinking if I am No. 1. I am thinking about try to play well and try to win the match. I think the opponent thinks the same.

Dépasser la douleur, c'est sa marque de fabrique. Sous antibiotiques depuis le début de la semaine, Rafael Nadal grimace. Il ne se plaint pas, il joue... et il gagne. Contre Lukas Lacko, il a souffert. Contre Ernests Gulbis, il souffre un peu et il gagne (7-6 [3], 6-3 en 1h51') encore pour se qualifier en demi-finales face à Nikolay Davydenko ou Ivo Karlovic. Seules ses petites inconstances et quelques fautes directes inhabituels donnent des signaux de sa relative faiblesse momentanée. Mais un Nadal fatigué vaut bien physiquement deux joueurs moyens ! Il ne lâche rien...

Quand le Letton lui inflige trois jeux d'affilée pour revenir à 4-4 et mener (0-40), l'Espagnol s'accroche encore et toujours. Il efface ses trois balles de break avec deux grands coups droits et un ace. Il connaît le danger. En trois confrontations face au 24e mondial, il a toujours perdu un set, même sur terre battue l'an dernier à Rome. Alors il se méfie. Mais il sait que le talent d'Ernests Gulbis est son principal atout et son principal ennemi.

La constance prévaut sur le coup génial

Le troisième point du tie-break s'apparente au péché de gourmandise avec une amortie de revers en sautant qui finit dans le bas du filet. Et ce jeu décisif démontre toute la différence entre un immense champion et un excellent joueur. Rafael Nadal serre le jeu, Ernests Gulbis craque en coup droit. La constance vaut davantage qu'un point génial (33 fautes directes pour 31 points gagnants pour Gulbis).

Le Letton ne tient pas le bras de fer physique, le coup droit du Majorquin se transforme en uppercut, sa défense demeure insubmersible et ce travail de sape finit par un break à 2-2 au deuxième set. Plus le temps passe, plus les coups du numéro 1 mondial font mal. Plus il trouve les failles et enchaîne les points gagnants (27 points gagnants pour 11 fautes directes). Dépasser la douleur, ce n'est pas donné à tout le monde.

Poco después de superar el letón Ernests Gulbis en una hora y 51 minutos, el número uno del mundo cumplió el compromiso de la competición por parejas. Junto a su compañero López tardaron 78 minutos en doblegar a sus adversarios.

Nadal y López disputarán el título de dobles de Doha a los italianos Daniele Bracciali y Andreas Seppi, que ganaron a la pareja formada por su compatriota Fabio Fognini y el eslovaco Igor Zelenay (6-1, 4-6 y 11-9).

Visiblement diminué physiquement, semble-t-il par un syndrome grippal, Rafael Nadal n'était pas en mesure de défendre ses chances contre Nikolay Davydenko, en demi-finale du tournoi de Doha. Le Russe, tenant du titre, s'est facilement imposé contre le numéro un mondial (6-3, 6-2), et défiera Roger Federer en finale samedi.

Nikolay Davydenko et un virus grippal terrassent (6-3, 6-2) Rafael Nadal. Quand l'Espagnol est privé de son physique, il devient presque ordinaire. Sans énergie, il a le mérite d'essayer. Pourquoi pas ? Contre Lukas Lacko et Ernests Gulbis, c'est passé... Face au Russe, ses chances sont aussi élevées qu'un joueur de casino devant une roulette. Le jeu, le mental et le physique sont du côté du 22e mondial.

Nikolay Davydenko joue vite, impose une cadence infernale avec ses prises de balle précoces et se déplace comme une mobylette. Dans le jeu, le numéro 1 mondial apparaît donc sans solution malgré un break à 1-1 au premier set. Sa balle ne gicle pas, atterrit dans le carré de service et son souffle est court. A 6-3, 2-0, il appelle le médecin. L'abandon plane, mais ce n'est pas le genre de la maison. Pourtant sans physique, son jeu devient ordinaire. Il n'a pas le jeu ni le physique... Reste le mental.
Davydenko tient à son bien

Contre un joueur lambda, son ascendant psychologique compense parfois une défaillance. Contre Nikolay Davydenko de retour à son meilleur niveau après sa saison 2010 polluée par les blessures, il ne possède pas cet avantage. L'ancien numéro 3 mondial reste sur trois victoires consécutives contre le Majorquin et détient suffisamment d'expérience pour gérer ce match bizarre. Alors il joue son match. Simplement.

Fair-play, Rafael Nadal n'abandonne pas. Professionnel, Nikolay Davydenko termine son travail. Même un Nadal diminué, il faut le battre. Jusqu'au bout, le numéro 1 mondial essaie, se bat pour éviter un nouveau 6-0 dans le tournoi, jette ses dernières forces dans un sursaut d'orgueil et sauve des balles de match. Mais il doit reprendre son souffle sur les longs échanges et le 22e mondial n'est pas un joueur ordinaire. Alors le Russe reste concentré et compte bien démontrer son retour en forme pour sa 17e confrontation (14-2 pour le Suisse) avec Roger Federer. Malgré son 22e rang mondial, le tenant du titre tient à son bien.

En finale, le Suisse ne retrouvera pas son nouveau meilleur ami Rafael Nadal, avec qui il a multiplié les exhibitions en pré-saison, mais un Nikolay Davydenko qui acquiert petit à petit le statut de bête noire de l'Espagnol. Ils ne sont pas nombreux à pouvoir se targuer de rester sur quatre victoires de rang face au numéro un mondial. Le Russe si, lui qui présente désormais un bilan positif face à Nadal (5v.-4d.). Cette fois-ci, il y a tout de même une explication à la sévère défaite enregistrée par le Majorquin (6/3 6/2). Victime lui aussi de la grippe, Nadal n'a été que l'ombre de lui-même, sans force. Encore fallait-il savoir en profiter, ce qu'a parfaitement su faire Davydenko, auteur de cinq breaks. Même diminué et dominé, le numéro un mondial a eu la courtoisie d'aller au bout de son match alors que la venue du médecin à 6/3 2/0 aurait pu faire croire à un abandon. Federer, en tout cas, n'est pas certain de gagner au change. Car Davydenko n'a pas l'intention d'abandonner son titre à Doha.

Los españoles Rafael Nadal y Marc López ganaron la final de dobles del torneo de Doha tras batir hoy en la final a los italianos Daniele Bracciali y Andreas Seppi por 6-3 y 7-6 (4) en una hora y 33 minutos.

Pocas horas después de resultar eliminado en la semifinales del cuadro individual a manos del ruso Nikolay Davydenko, Nadal, aquejado de un proceso gripal, encontró consuelo en el torneo por parejas junto Marc López.

Los españoles se apuntaron con cierta comodidad el primer set, pero en el segundo los italianos reaccionaron y consiguieron forzar un desempate, en el que acabaron cayendo. Nadal y López, terceros favoritos, sumaron su tercer título, y el segundo en Doha (también ganaron en 2009), desde que juegan juntos en dobles.

El dúo español se impuso en marzo pasado en el torneo de Indian Wells. Juegan juntos desde hace dos años, han ganado dieciséis partidos y sólo han perdido tres. El número uno del mundo español sucumbió en las semifinales del torneo individual ante la gripe que arrastra estos días y al poderío del renacido ruso Nikolay Davydenko, que se enfrentará en la final al suizo Roger Federer, segundo favorito.

Rafa Nadal tuvo que despedirse del torneo ante el rival frente al que cayó en la final del pasado año en el último enfrentamiento entre ambos. Esta vez por 6-3 y 6-2.

Nadal retrasa viaje a Australia por gripe

Doha.- El español Rafael Nadal, quien este viernes fue eliminado en las semifinales del torneo de tenis ATP de Doha por Nikolay Davydenko, anunció que retrasaría su viaje a Australia, donde el 17 de enero empieza el Abierto, a causa de la gripe que sufre estos días.

"Pensé en retirarme, no tenía ninguna posibilidad de ganar el partido, lo supe tras cuatro o cinco juegos. Me sentí muy mal pero me cuesta dejar la cancha. No es justo ni para el público ni para el torneo ni para el oponente", dijo el español, que perdió 6-3 y 6-2 contra el ruso, destacó AFP.

"Me quedaré aquí (en Doha) para recuperarme antes de viajar (a Australia). Ir en avión a veces complica más las cosas. Y tampoco tengo nada que hacer ahora mismo en Australia", dijo el manacorí, que lleva varios días tomando antibióticos.

Davydenko se enfrentará en la final del torneo qatarí, el sábado, al número 2 mundial, el suizo Roger Federer, que este viernes eliminó al francés Jo-Wilfried Tsonga por 6-3 y 7-6 (7/2) en la otra 'semi'.
